Barista (Part / Full-Time)

Role Overview

Oasis Coffee & Chai is looking for an experienced, reliable Senior Barista to help lead our coffee operations at our Lake Forest Oasis location. Beyond crafting high-quality beverages with speed and care, you will take ownership of daily inventory, equipment maintenance, and building a loyal customer base in a fast-paced environment.

Location: 13783 West Oasis Service Rd, Lake Forest, IL 60045

Pay Range: $13.00 – $17.00 / hour + tips (pooled) + Quarterly Performance Bonuses

Hours & Schedule: Various shifts | Opening/Closing shifts, weekends, & holidays as needed

Key Responsibilities

  • Coffee & Hospitality: Craft espresso, drip coffee, and chai to high quality standards. Operate the POS system, engage warmly with commuters and travelers, and suggest menu items to grow sales.

  • Inventory & Operations: Track daily par counts of beans, milk, syrups, and paper goods. Handle vendor deliveries, manage stock rotation (FIFO), log waste, and assist with till reconciliation and shift drops.

  • Cleanliness & Compliance: Maintain strict Illinois Department of Public Health sanitation standards. Execute opening/closing checklists, sanitize touchpoints, and log storage temperatures.

  • Leadership & Maintenance: Deep clean and troubleshoot coffee equipment (espresso machine, grinder, drip brewer). Guide and train junior baristas on recipes and protocols.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 2+ years of specialty coffee or high-volume food service barista experience required.

  • Certifications: Illinois Food Handler certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).

  • Physical & Logistics: Ability to stand for 8-hour shifts, lift up to 40 lbs, and secure reliable transportation to the Lake Forest Oasis.

  • Screening: Must pass an E-Verify and background check upon hire. Non-slip shoes and hat/hairnet required on shift.
